Build your first quantum circuit
IBM Quantum Composer offers a customizable set of tools to help you build, visualize, and run quantum circuits on real quantum hardware. Your first circuit will be a Bell state – a simple circuit where two qubits become maximally entangled.

Circuit view customization
- Add or remove qubits and registers by clicking on the circuit wire, or define them using the register settings modal.
- Explore alignment options to control how your circuit is displayed:
- Left alignment (default): Organizes gates in a compact format
- Freeform alignment: Allows gates to be placed anywhere
- Layers alignment: Visualizes the operation order

Code editor
- Changes to the circuit are automatically synced with the code editor, and vice versa. Edit OpenQASM 2.0 code and see those changes visually.
- View your code in OpenQASM (editable) or Qiskit (read-only).
- Export your code to use in different applications.

In-context editing & information
- Use the in-line toolbar to take quick actions like Group and Copy.
- Edit gate parameters and view glossary definitions in the in-context panel on the left.
- Expand or collapse gates to see their definitions without ungrouping them.

File download & upload
- Start fresh with a new file, or upload a .qasm from local storage to pick up where you left off.
- Download your file to save changes once you’re done editing.
- Rename your file before downloading to keep versions organized.
- Duplicate a file into a new tab to explore changes without affecting your original.

Inspect mode
- Use Inspect mode as a debugging tool to step through your circuit and preview how it would execute on real hardware.
- Watch the visualizations update in real time as you progress through circuit operations with the arrow buttons.
Close
In-line phase disk
- Drag phase disk visualizations onto your circuit from the catalog to measure the state of each qubit at any point in your circuit.
- Use the info panel to learn more about the phase disk visualization in context, or refer to our documentation to learn more.
Close
Theme & export options
- Switch between Default and Monochrome themes via View > Theme > Monochrome.
- Customize your circuit diagram export settings, including theme, file format, and wrap.
- Use the preview panel to see how your circuit diagram will appear before exporting.
